Lake Victoria South Water Services Board was established on 12th March 2004 vide gazette notice No. 1714 under the Water Act 2002 as a State Corporation. It is responsible for the provision of efficient and economical Water and Sanitation Services in its area of jurisdiction.
The Board wishes to recruit self driven, result oriented, highly motivated and qualified individuals to fill the following positions.
1. Electro-Mechanical Engineer – 1 Post - LVSWSB/1/2009
Required skills and Qualifications
For appointment to this position the successful candidate should:-
Have at least a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or any other equivalent qualifications.
A post-graduate diploma in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering will be added advantage.
Have at least 8 years experience in design, installation and operations and maintenance of electro-mechanical works.
Should have demonstrated professional competence in management and performance assessment of electro-mechanical installations.
He/she should have knowledge in public procurement procedures
Be Computer literate
Be able to prepare timely reports
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be reporting to the Manager Assets Development and Management and be responsible for-
Ensure proper design, installation, operation and maintenance of electro-mechanical works.
Ensure that electro mechanical equipment such as pumps, electrical panels, motors acquired and installed to conform to required technical specification.
Ensure that electro-mechanical equipment are operated and maintained as required.
Updating and maintenance of electro-mechanical asset register.
Undertake condition and performance assessment of electro-mechanical installation at water utilities.
Provide technical support on operation and maintenance of electro-mechanical installations to staff at water utilities.
2. CHEMIST
Required skills and Qualifications
For appointment to this post the successful candidate should:-
Posses at least a Bachelor of Science degree in natural sciences which include Chemistry or Biochemistry.
Have at least eight (8) years experience in water quality and waste water quality management at water supply and sewerage installations.
Should have demonstrated professional competence in Management of water quality and waste water quality laboratory services. Be able to prepare reliable water quality and waste water quality assurance reports.
Be able to enforce water and waste water quality guidelines and standards.
Be proficient in computer.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be reporting to the Chief Manager Technical Services
and be responsible for:-
Management of Water Quality and waste water quality assurance.
Monitoring of water quality and waste water quality to ensure that required standards and guidelines are maintained.
Carrying out water quality and waste water quality surveillance and preparing reports.
Carrying out research on water quality and pollution control.
Guiding the Board's utilities towards attainment of ISO compliance on water quality.
Respond to any emergency occurrences in relation to water and sewerage quality.
Carryout capacity building of staff at water utility levels on water quality and waste water quality.

The Board has received funding from European Development Fund of the European Union for implementation of good water governance projects for Urban and Rural Water supplies in the Board's area of jurisdiction.
The Board intends to engage personnel who will help in the implementation of the project and is therefore looking for suitable candidates to fill the following positions to be based in Kisumu. All positions are on a one year renewable contract.
(1) PROJECT MANAGER - 1 POST - LVSWSB/3/2009
The holder of the position will be reporting to the imprest administrator and will be responsible for the actual execution of the project and supervision of a team of staff.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The purpose of this position is to assist the imprest administrator in the overall day to day running of the projects.
The specific duties and responsibilities of this position will include:
Directing, co-ordinating, controlling and managing the programme's operations
Overseeing the planning, implementation and monitoring of the programme activities.
Preparation of programme expenditure estimates.
Carrying out effective consultation with all key stakeholders at all stages of implementation of the programme.
Developing the programme's strategies, policies and plans to facilitate achievement of overall objective and specific objectives of the programme.
Ensuring that the needs of various stakeholders are effectively met.
Job Requirements include:
The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:-
A Bachelors Degree in Civil or Water Engineering or related sciences.
A Post Graduate qualification in Management will be an added advantage.
Have at least 5 years experience in managing water and sewerage related services.
Familiarity with donor-funded projects will be an added advantage
Experience in preparing strategic plans and plans of operations together with developing quality performance indicators.
Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and liaising with various stakeholders
Familiarity with water sector reforms and their immediate and long term requirements
Basic understanding with GOK accounting systems
Proficiency in use of computers
(2) PROJECT ADMINISTRATOR - 1 POST - LVSWSB/4/2009
The main duties and responsibilities for the position include:-
Carrying out general administration such as transport management, security services, telephone services, cleaning services, office administration and registry services
Carrying out Human Resource/Administration duties and coordinate functions of the personnel engaged by the project.
Developing administrative systems to facilitate faster service delivery.
Monitoring project staff performance and administer performance appraisal systems.
Handling employee welfare issues including health and safety in the workplace
Performing general office administration
Ensuring that set targets are achieved by personnel engaged by the project
Job Requirements include: The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:-
Have a degree in Social Sciences, Business administration or an equivalent degree from a recognized institution
A Post Graduate qualification in Administration, CPS or Business Administration.
At least 5 years experience in handling general administration work.
Accounting Knowledge will be an added advantage.
Proficiency in use of computers
(3) PROJECT ACCOUNTANT - 1 POST - LVSWSB/5/2009
The main duties and responsibilities for the position include:-
Ensuring sound financial control processes and procedures are maintained.
Preparation and maintenance of general ledger, sub-ledgers and other books of accounts.
Prepare expenditure budgets and ensure their effective implementation.
Reconciliation of programme accounts and processing of payments.
Preparation of project accounting reports and maintenance of records.
Preparation of financial plans and advising on expenditure levels.
Preparation of accounts and expenditure reports.
Job Requirements include: The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:-
Be in possession of Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Option) degree from a recognized University.
Be in possession of at least a CPAII or equivalent qualification.
Have exposure in computerized accounting system.
Have at least 6 years experience in a busy accounting environment, three years of which should be in a senior position.
Be a person of high integrity, analytical and innovative skills.
