KEMRI / University of Washington Job Vacancies
The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in collaboration with the University of Washington is conducting a research study at multiple sites in Kenya.
Due to the increased number of research projects within the KEMRI/UW Study Project and in order to carry out research more efficiently, the study seeks to recruit dynamic, innovative and experienced persons to fill the following positions:
1. Registered Clinical Officers (2)
The officers will participate in HIV related research and manage study participants. They will give palliative, curative and preventive care as may be needed.
They will be expected to observe good clinical practice in carrying out duties and work as a team with other staffs.
They will be reporting to the Principal Investigator and should be ready to carry out other duties delegated.
Required Qualifications: Diploma in Clinical Medicine Registered with the Clinical Officer's Council. At least 2 years working experience in a busy hospital or Research Institution
2. Counselors (6)
The counselors will report to the Site Coordinators, while working closely with the field staff and laboratory staff. The counselors will recruit participants into the study, guide participants smoothly through study procedures, assist in proper follow-up of participants, and ensure the accuracy of data collected for the study.
Required Qualifications: Certificate in counseling Three years of working experience Must have strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills Must be able to work in a professional and ethical manner with competence, Accountability and integrity. Knowing one’s HIV Status and participating in an active support group will be an added advantage
3. Lab Technologists (2)
The Lab technologists will be reporting to the site coordinators. The officers will receive and process patient specimens including, but not limited to, stools, blood and urine for analyses.
They will also document and maintain sample processing records. The officers may be called upon to collect stool, blood, and other samples from patients, train staff members, students and or scientists where applicable.
Required Qualifications: Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent Registered with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board. The applicant must have good knowledge of laboratory operations and procedures and should be able to execute duties and responsibilities with minimum supervision. Competent communication skills Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
4. Data Clerks(2)
The Data entry clerks will be reporting to the site coordinators. They will carry out data entry, data clearing and report writing
Required Qualifications: Certificate in Information Technology Computer literate. Speed of up to 40 WPM.
Terms of Employment: One (1) year renewable contract as per KEMRI Scheme of Service. All the staffs will undergo a three (3) months probationary period for the first three months upon initiation of employment.
