Job Summary
Based in the Aberdeen Biomedical Imaging Centre within the School of Medicine and Dentistry (Division of Applied Medicine) and the Radiology Specialty Training Programme of the North of Scotland Deanery, this post would suit a Radiology trainee with demonstrable academic aspirations who wishes to pursue an academic training pathway within Radiology. The appointee will be expected to hold a UK NTN and have demonstrated satisfactory progress through the RITA or ARCP process. Where a University Higher Degree (MD or PhD) is not held already, the appointee will be expected to enrol for such a degree and, with senior support, to apply for competitive research funding in order to undertake out of programme research. The Aberdeen Biomedical Imaging Centre has excellent opportunities for imaging research and has particular expertise in breast imaging, oncological imaging with MRI and PETCT and in dementia and the ageing brain.
The post will be available from appointment until attainment of CCT and is based on an 80% clinical, 20% research split of time. The Postgraduate Dean confirms that this placement and programme has the required educational and Dean’s approval and that a North of Scotland National Training Number is available. The appointment is subject to successful annual review under the RITA or ARCP process (as relevant).

Criteria
• MBChB or equivalent
• Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment
• Holds a UK National Training Number in Radiology
• Able to demonstrate aspiration to academic career
• Track record of contribution to publications in peer-reviewed journals or scientific abstracts.
• Experience in writing scientific articles or presentations at scientific meetings
• Portfolio evidence of satisfactory progress in clinical training programme to date
• Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients
• Experience of supervising trainee doctors
• Proven organisational abilities, including evidence of effective time-management and negotiating skills.
