Clinton Health Access Initiative Employment Opportunities

Overview:

The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) recently reached a strategic decision to apply the techniques it has used successfully to improve access to HIV/AIDS and malaria treatment in developing countries to other priority areas of global health. Examples of CHAI’s impact to date include reducing the price of AIDS medicines by 50%, transforming the global approach to pediatric AIDS to ensure that children are no longer falling behind adults in treatment scale-up, and dramatically increasing access to and affordability of the most effective malaria medicines through a new global initiative. Further detail on CHAI’s work and impact can be found at:

The first new global health issues to which CHAI is applying its unique model is delivery of essential vaccines. Rotavirus and pneumococcal pneumonia currently kill approximately 800,000 children each year, with 80% of these deaths occurring in the developing world. By scaling up the coverage of vaccines against these and other major diseases in developing countries to 90 percent, the lives of 7.6 million children could be saved over the next decade. Achieving that objective will require overcoming entrenched obstacles to the effective and efficient delivery of vaccines in targeted countries.

The Director will lead a team of at least 10 professionals and be responsible for the continued development and execution of a comprehensive strategy to accelerate the introduction of rotavirus and pneumococcal vaccines and improve the efficiency of existing vaccine delivery systems in high-burden countries in Africa. As a leader of a new program, the Director will have significant opportunity to shape CHAI’s approach in the field and will be expected to use strong internal and external relationship management, exceptional team development and management, and rigorous analysis to develop and execute high-impact programs. The Director will be expected to develop deep content expertise in order to be an internal and external thought leader on vaccine delivery issues and effectively represent CHAI in relationships with relevant leaders of key global institutions such as the GAVI Alliance, the World Health Organization, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
