Dean of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs-University of Minnesota

This senior administrative position reports to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost of the University of Minnesota system. Responsibilities include enhancing the School’s national and international standing as a professional school in a major research, public land-grant, urban university; creating an environment that attracts talented faculty, fellows, and staff and promotes excellence in teaching, research, and outreach; cultivating relationships both within the University and with the broader community; and ensuring the long-term financial viability of the School and its programs. Salary, faculty rank and tenure are negotiable based upon qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for leadership and oversight of School’s five graduate degree programs, six Policy Areas of focus, and 12 centers and programs. The School’s strategic goal is to implement a Ph.D. program, while also advancing the School’s momentum and international reputation. Academic Preparation: Candidates must hold an appropriate advanced graduate degree and/or a distinguished record of intellectual contributions to the field of public affairs.

Required Qualifications:
• Senior level management and leadership experience in a research university or comparably complex organization.
• Demonstrated commitment to research and scholarship.
• Ability to articulate and develop the roles of a top-rated, multi-disciplinary school of public affairs.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in attracting and retaining talented professionals.
• Ability to ensure the long-term financial viability of the school, including success in generating external funding.
• Ability to mentor and work with students.
