Director, External Relations (Ref: ER101)

The mission of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance is to support communities to play a full and effective role in the AIDS response. Our vision is a world in which people do not die of AIDS. Since 1994, the Alliance and its partners have supported over 3,000 projects, in over 40 countries, reaching millions of people.

We are seeking a Director, External Relations, to lead the Alliance strategy in Policy, Best Practice, Resource Mobilisation and Communications across the Alliance family, including the US office in Washington.

The Director, External Relations, is a member of the Senior Management Team and will participate actively in the formulation of Alliance strategy and policy ensuring that sustainable support is available to Alliance programmes, learning is translated into institutional knowledge driving improved practice, Alliance HIV Best Practice influences international fora and networks and that the Alliance communicates effectively with external stakeholders, raising the profile of the Alliance and HIV/AIDS best practice across Europe and the US.

In addition, the Director will contribute to the review of organisational strategy, planning and organisational development, ensuring that the Alliance continues to be positioned as a leading HIV/AIDS organisation and building strong and effective working relations with donors, policy makers, partner organisations and with the media.

The ideal candidate will be a senior manager with considerable knowledge and experience of the HIV/AIDS sector, the donor environment in particular, and knowledge of those institutions and networks that are making a significant contribution to the global response to HIV. S/he will have post graduate qualifications in either Development or Public Health and management and have demonstrable leadership, management and interpersonal skills.
