Space Planning & Merchandising Manager

Permanent management level position in the Petrochemical sector in Johannesburg in South Africa (Gauteng).
Job Description

Purpose:
To plan, manage and develop revenue growth and gross profit generation through the analysis of sales data in order to come up with effective space management and merchandising solutions for the shop.

Accountabilities:
Introduce layouts and planograms to maximise space returns and provide a more standardised base with which to leverage higher consumer expectations and supplier terms.
Develop and assist in the coordination of sales expansion and perform the space management function for the store as a whole across all to facilitate the rapid sales and profit growth required.
Ensure customer offer is segmented by site location and customer needs in a specific trade area.
Work closely with key suppliers to track and interpret customer trends and insights and to implement effective category captaincy.
Work with category managers in analysing areas of high focus as well as across categories.
Build key relationships with the Regional CR Implementers and Training teams to ensure alignment and development of skills and competencies.
Coach and develop Retailers and Sales & Ops teams to establish an effective, efficient and sustainable merchandising platform for the network.
Ensure best practice is shared as soon as is practicable within the network
Provide space management guidelines and develop training manuals for merchandising.

Key Competencies Required:
Skilled in the development & analysis of layouts to maximise sales, profitability and satisfy consumer and supplier needs.
Able to communicate and document complex concepts ensuring clear understanding by the audience at all levels and has the ability to market / sell these.
Develop innovative strategies and solutions.
Able to engage and manage business relationships.
Able to influence an audience, possibly against pre-held views.
Able to conduct reviews during and after project and give feedback (positive and negative) on progress.
Tertiary business qualification

Requirements:
5 years plus FMCG experience in space management, merchandising and working with planograms
A distinct advantage is the ability to apply the latest advancements in Information Technology including space management to business solutions
Numeracy and communication skills (written and verbal) are critical
Must be able to demonstrate a strong track record of delivery in a commercial environment and be able to show a strong customer focus
