WUSC is seeking qualified field-based employees, including a Chief of Party and 4 technical specialists, for a proposed USAID-funded project in the area of teacher training in Southern Sudan. The project aims to improve access to basic education services in S. Sudan, through improvements to policy frameworks, teacher professional development systems and education materials. Project staff will work closely with the Ministry of Education (MOE) and its affiliate offices at the state level, teacher training institutes and centres, universities, local organizations and stakeholders. Please note that available positions are field based for the three–year duration of the project (anticipated to start in June, 2011), subject to funding.

Education

· All positions require a Masters degree (or above) in education or relevant field

Education Materials Development (EMD) Specialist:

Level of effort: 100%

Primary location: Juba

The EMD Specialist will have the following competencies and skills:

· Track record in employing ICTs for education of teachers, educators administrators and students to improve the availability and effectiveness of training

· Experience in supporting curricula development/teacher training centres to develop, test and distribute education and training materials in developing countries, including to isolated areas

· Expertise in assessing the appropriateness of learning materials for teacher conditions on the ground in low-resource, developing country contexts (including for female teachers)

· Experience employing data collection/evaluation tools to monitor education materials' performance in diverse areas, and in providing recommendations for improved impact of education materials

· Experience in distance, non-formal or alternative education materials highly desirable

· Familiarity with donor-funded project design and monitoring tools (such as work plans, quarterly reports, mid-project and final evaluations, etc.)

· Ability to integrate appropriate gender equity measures into social sector programs

· Fragile and/or post conflict country experience an asset

· Familiarity with USAID policies and reporting and procedures

· Excellent cross-cultural communication skills (English)
