One of the century's five most prolific inventors, founder Jerry
Lemelson believed that invention and innovation play a critical
role in shaping our future. The President echoed that perception
in his "Educate to Innovate" campaign where he inspired citizens
to "recapture the spirit of American innovation and optimism"
and dare to invent something new. The Lemelson Foundation is
tackling the challenges of the 21st century by encouraging
ingenuity to generate ideas and technologies that vastly improve
lives.

As the Foundation's second Executive Director you will have a
unique opportunity to lead one of the most inventive domestic
and international philanthropic endeavors in the country. You
will manage a talented program and administrative staff of 10,
while maintaining relationships with advisors, partner
organizations and consultants across the globe. Working with
the Board of Directors, you will help shape the next phase of the
organizations development. The Executive Director will be
responsible for managing the annual operating budget of
approximately $3 million.

Ideally, we are seeking candidates with experience leading a
family-governed foundation, philanthropic organization, NGO or
related organization. An individual with significant exposure to
domestic and international programs or grants, and
demonstrated experience managing and developing small teams
of accomplished staff while instilling a learning culture is
preferred.

The Executive Director will serve as an ambassador of the
Foundation and its work in order to maximize influence.
Candidates must have solid experience presenting to groups of
different sizes in various forums, exceptional organizational
skills, and have strong written communication ability.

An undergraduate degree is required. The ideal candidate will
have a graduate degree, preferably with a focus on science,
technology, engineering, or math. Additional exposure to the
social enterprise, invention, international development and
philanthropy sector is desired. A competitive compensation
