Surgical Theatre Assistant
The Makerere University Walter-Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-governmental, non-profit HIV research program that was established in 2002 by a memorandum of understanding between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation and Makerere University. MUWRP is working with the Districts of Kayunga and Mukono to support a full range of HIV prevention, care and treatment programs in these districts.
MUWRP is looking for competent individuals to fill the following positions in Kayunga and Mukono Districts;
POSITION TITLE: Surgical Theatre Assistant (3 positions)
ADDED ADVANTAGE EDUCATION/TRAINING
• Registered / Enrolled Nurse or Midwife.
• Formal training in HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care and Treatment including Antiretroviral Therapy and Palliative Care
• Formal Training in Adolescent and adult Medical Male Circumcision under local Anesthesia
• Formal training in counseling, especially youth counseling.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Under the direction of MUWRP and District supervisors, provide nursing and/or surgical theatre assistant services as a member of a fixed or mobile medical male circumcision team
• Assist in minor surgical procedures as per WHO/MOH guidelines under the guidance of technical advisors.
• Conduct Health Education session and/or routine physical; examinations.
• Ensure patient safety and confidentiality.
• Participate in complete, timely and accurate documentation of all surgical and follow-up procedures

Job requirement
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Training as a Medical Theater Assistant
• At least 2 years of post-qualification professional experience
• Experience in HIV/AIDS Prevention, care and Treatment including Antiretroviral Therapy
• Excellent interpersonal/communication skills
• Commitment to accomplishing designated goals and targets in service provision
• Fluency in verbal and written English, able to fluently read and speak Luganda
• Experience of living and working in a rural environment
• Maintain surgical instruments and theater equipment
• Training as a Medical Theater Assistant
