Toshiba Research Europe Ltd (TREL) based in south west England, is one of the globalised corporate level R&D organisations founded by Toshiba Corporation, one of the world's foremost eco-companies committed to developing innovative technologies centering on the fields of Electronics and Energy. The Telecommunications Research Laboratory (TRL) of TREL undertakes advanced research in the field of wireless and mobile communications. We are currently seeking innovative Research Engineers to join the Systems and Networks research Group:

Technical Area
The Research Engineers will engage in research, design and development of communication technologies primarily targeting systems and applications with emphasis on "smart" systems for instance next generation power grids, health care and industrial systems.

The ideal candidates with excellent theoretical and applied knowledge will perform research and develop networking and systems solutions mainly at Layer 2/3 and above of the OSI stack . As part of the R&D activities, the Research Engineers will be required to participate in internal and external project meetings and standardization activities, make presentations and generate high quality technical output in terms of technical notes, patents, publications and prototypes.

The positions involve working in a team of researchers within one or more projects to create and execute research and development looking at advanced networking systems, technologies, and applications. The Research Group covers a broad range of topics including networking, security, network management, MAC layer protocols, radio resource management, cross layer algorithms, energy efficiency, optimization and distributed systems.

Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics or Computer Science (or an appropriate undergraduate/postgraduate degree with an excellent research track record).

The ideal candidates should ideally be familiar with one or more of the following technology areas:

• Wireless communication architectures, protocols, and network management
• Energy efficient networking
• Sensor and Actuator networks
• M2M communications
• Mesh network protocols for routing and self-organization.
• Network security and privacy for heterogeneous wireless/wired systems
• Quality of Service management in heterogeneous wireless/wired systems
• Wireless localization and ranging technologies
• Network and system modelling and simulation
• Data mining and Machine Learning
• Cross Layer Optimisation
• Self-X techniques

Desired technical skills include experience in wireless technologies, optimization techniques, mathematical modelling, simulation, system modelling and analysis, and software development.

Appointments will be for permanent positions. A competitive salary (£30 - £40K), aligned to experience and qualifications plus a generous benefit package, will be offered.
