Job Information

The MRC Unit, The Gambia is the Council’s largest establishment conducting medical research in a developing country. The Unit aims to improve the health of people in low income countries by excellence in multi-disciplinary research programmes. We have developed an exciting new research agenda to reflect changes in national and global health priorities. Our new science portfolio is organised around three themes: Child Survival, Disease Control & Elimination and Vaccination.

We are looking for a Clinical Trial Coordinator/Paediatrician with significant experience of clinical trials in developing countries to work on a trial to evaluate the safety, tolerability and immunogenicity of a multi-dose vial for Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MDV PCV13).

We seek someone with:

Essential

  • MB BS.
  • FWACP Part 2 in Paediatrics or equivalent.
  • Post graduate studies on Epidemiology or equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience as paediatrician.
  • Previous work on clinical trials of drugs/vaccines following GCP requirements.
  • Practical experience of health research in developing countries.
  • Proven experience of staff management.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Commitment to working in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to work on data bases and statistical packages.
  • A flexible and well-organized approach to work and an ability to meet deadlines.
  • Attention to details.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • A team player and motivator.
  • Willingness to be on-call and work outside the normal working hours.

Preferred

  • Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access).

The post will be for 18 months and is subject to a probationary period of 6 months.

The salary will be in Occupational Group E3.
