Role Overview

The Internal Audit Department provides an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve the Bank’s operations. It assists the Bank to accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to the evaluation and improvement of the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.
The Internal Audit function has to be highly visible, unquestionable in its independent role and needs to command the necessary respect and authority in dealing with the most senior managers in the Bank and its Board of Directors. The Head of Internal Audit reports directly to the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
The Internal Auditor’s responsibilities will include, among other, performing internal audit assignments of all aspects of Banking operations (e.g. appraisal, approval, disbursement, administration, monitoring and divestment). The EBRD provides a wide range of financial instruments to banks, industries and businesses - both new ventures and investments in existing companies. The principal forms of direct financing are loans, equity and guarantees. Projects generally range from €EUR5 million to EUR250 million and are tailored to the needs of the client and to the specific situation of the country, region and sector.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

  • With respect to assigned internal audits, propose an audit engagement plan, perform the audit, and draft a high quality report, all in compliance with the IIA Standards.
  • Carry out specific ad-hoc responsibilities and tasks as prescribed by the Head or Deputy Head of Internal Audit.
  • Provide input into the risk-based annual planning process of the Internal Audit Department.

Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree from a leading university, preferably with a finance or business focus, or other relevant post graduate degree or professional qualification.
  • At least 5 years of relevant post qualification experience in an internal or external audit environment.
  •  Working knowledge of the Institute of IIA Standards.
  •  The ability to communicate findings and recommendations effectively in English, especially in writing reports to an extremely high standard. 
  • Knowledge of the business environment in the Bank’s countries of operation and proficiency in the Russian language are not essential skills but would be considered as valuable assets.
