We are seeking an enthusiastic Research Fellow with expertise in qualitative research methods and an understanding of the theory and practice of evaluation to join a multi-disciplinary research team evaluating the Public Health Responsibility Deal. Clinical Lecturer/Senior Clinical Lecturer in Child Survival


London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine -Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology

Ref: TEG15-MRC 
The MRC Unit in The Gambia has conducted ground-breaking research on the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the tropics for over 50 years. Despite substantial falls in child mortality over the past several decades, current levels remain unacceptably high. The research programme in the Unit has recently been reorganised under three themes: Child Survival, Disease Control & Elimination and Vaccinology. We are seeking to appoint a clinical epidemiologist to play a major role in the Child Survival Theme. The person will be appointed will be on the staff of the MRC Tropical Epidemiology Group (TEG) in LSHTM but will be based full-time in The Gambia, with frequent contact with the TEG and other LSHTM staff in London.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in two major research thrusts in the coming years: studies based in health facilities, with an emphasis on diagnostics and treatment of the severely ill child, and community-based interventions to reduce child mortality. The successful applicant will be required to develop and lead relevant research projects within this Theme and to contribute actively to the Unit’s wider programme of research.
The appointment will be for three years in the first instance, extendable by mutual agreement, and will be made on the School’s Clinical Lecturer/Senior Clinical Lecturer scale of £39,721 to £72,536 per annum inclusive dependent on qualifications/experience.

This may involve supervision of clerical and support staff. You will ensure that clinical trials adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures developed by the Clinical Trials Unit and Trust and University policies and procedures.
You will be a good team worker with excellent project management and IT skills. You will have a sound knowledge of ICH GCP and be competent at setting up clinical trial sites and working with them to achieve their recruitment target on time. Travel within the UK will be required.

  • Supplier on-boarding.

Person Specification
  • Experience gained in a busy (ideally purchasing) office, requiring attention to detail and a high level of analytical skills.
  • A good understanding of procurement processes in relation to supplier relationships, tendering and procurement cycle.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of numerical accuracy.
  • Good analytical skills to manipulate and interpret data with high level of spreadsheet experience and ability to adapt relevant data and use basic functions including vlookup, if, pivot tables.
  • A good understanding of software packages and corporate finance systems particularly MS Office and SAP.

Both of these hospitals serve disadvantaged communities in the city. The aims of the research are to investigate – during the first three years of the ‘REP’s Children’ project – the impact of theatre activities on the personal, social and educational development of the participating children; the impact on the families’ levels of engagement with cultural activities; how The REP deals with invisible barriers which prevent access to the arts; and how The REP engages with partners in the health sector. The project will thus provide the student with a valuable resource of original data (both quantitative and qualitative) on which to base his/her doctoral thesis.  
The research will be supervised by WBS’s Professor Jonothan Neelands and Dr Steve Ball, Associate Director, Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
Collaboration
The PhD Studentship is part funded by Birmingham Repertory Theatre (The REP) one of the UK's leading regional theatres.    The successful candidate will be based at the University of Warwick but will spend a minimum of three months per year, not necessarily continuous, at The REP in Birmingham and would be expected to commute regularly between WBS and Birmingham.

The University of Western Australia (UWA) invites applications for the position of Director of the Australian Urban Design Research Centre (AUDRC). The Centre’s purpose is to teach, research, practice and advocate for high quality urban design. The Centre is guided by a Board of Management and an Educational and Professional Practice Advisory Committee and sits under the umbrella of the Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Visual Arts.
The AUDRC is located off campus in the CBD of Perth, has three full time staff and over 30 master’s and PhD students and is equipped with its own gallery and design studio. The Centre has been designated to spearhead the University’s priority research area of ‘Future Cities’. The Centre is expected to play a leading role in the emerging field of urban design and serve as an energetic interdisciplinary hub and interface between government, industry and academia.
The Director is responsible for all of the Centre’s activities in relation to teaching and research and is also expected to play a high-profile public role. In line with the Centre’s Strategic Plan the Director is expected to actively grow the Centre’s capacity and lead it toward financial self-sufficiency. A further opportunity exists for the Director to assume a leading role in the Co-operative Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities (CRC-WSC).
Required qualifications and skills include a strong professional and academic background in urban design with a PhD or equivalent in either architecture or landscape architecture; a distinguished teaching, research and publications track record and a demonstrated ability to work in and inculcate an interdisciplinary environment and create linkages between government, industry and the university.
