Save the Children’s Advocacy Department leads the development and implementation of advocacy strategies to achieve policy and political change at the highest level, manages Save the Children’s advocacy engagement with the UK government, international institutions and the private sector, provides policy intelligence to the wider organisation and forges alliances with key opinion-makers in the UK and globally. Through humanitarian advocacy, Save the Children works to influence national and international policies that impact on children affected by sudden-onset emergencies and protracted humanitarian crises.
About the Role
This role will work closely with country programmes to develop and implement advocacy strategies on international conflict and humanitarian issues, improving the effectiveness of our international advocacy and leading to demonstrable policy shifts and positive change for children.
Please note this role will be deployed up to 60%.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide strategic policy and advocacy support to country programmes affected by humanitarian crises
- Build strong relationships with country programmes to ensure that our policy work is grounded in Save the Children’s experience and contributes to international debates
- Contribute to the development and implementation of our conflict and humanitarian policy thinking and advocacy strategies
- Develop relationships with a network of key contacts in the UK and international humanitarian community
- Represent the Conflict and Humanitarian Policy and Advocacy team internally and represent Save the Children externally, including in the media as required.
About You
- Significant experience working on issues of humanitarian response and policy, including at the country level, and demonstrable understanding of humanitarian policy issues
- Willingness to travel at very short notice, including to high-risk and/or uncomfortable locations, for the large majority of the time and for up to 6 months
- Excellent understanding of advocacy in the context of NGOs, with different types of stakeholders (e.g. UN, AU, EC).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven experience working effectively in or leading coalitions/networks of civil society organisations.
- A working knowledge of French
- Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children
What we offer
In return we offer a salary of £34,000 - £38,000 depending on experience + pension, structured career development, travel and the opportunity to join a team at the leading edge of humanitarian advocacy.
