Development Assistant/Associate

Asylum Access seeks a dynamic individual for the position of Development Assistant/Associate based out of the Asylum Access Headquarters in Oakland, CA. The Development Assistant/Associate will lead the management of our individual major donor portfolio, including the development of annual donor engagement strategies, Relationship-management using Salesforce and event organization. The Development Assistant/Associate will also be responsible for supporting our institutional funding work through research and grant-writing, and provide executive Assistance to our Executive Director. The successful candidate will be a passionate human rights advocate, creative problem-solver and exceptional relationship-builder across multiple cultures and languages. The Development Assistant/Associate will work under the supervision of our Communications and Development Coordinator Anna Chen, and also work closely with our Executive Director Emily Arnold-Fernandez.
Key Responsibilities
Developing a comprehensive major individual donor cultivation strategy
Managing major individual donor relationships with our Executive Director
Salesforce data management and data analysis
Grant research and grant-writing
Executive assistance for our Executive Director
Working with our global leadership staff to draft donor engagements materials
Representing Asylum Access at events, including speaking engagements and networking events
Organizing fundraising and donor events
Media outreach and engagement
Support to our communications and development team as required
Preferred Qualifications
Superlative written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable taking initiative; proven ability to take a project from idea to implementation
Impeccable attention to detail
Working knowledge of Salesforce or other CRS
Quantitative analysis skills and/or experience
Creative and effective problem solver
Enthusiastic about making human rights a reality
High degree of professionalism
Experience communicating with the public in a real-world context
Bachelor’s degree or higher
Native fluency in English; proficiency in Spanish and other languages an asset
Training and/or experience in individual donor cultivation
Experience working with volunteers
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Working knowledge of Wordpress or other CMS
Able to make a commitment of at least one year (2Cyear commitment preferred)
