IT Process Manager – Automated Processes
Sandvik Machining Solutions (SMS) is a business area within the Sandvik Group and a global market-leading manufacturer of tools and tooling systems for advanced industrial metal cutting. Products are manufactured in cemented carbide and other hard materials such as diamond, cubic boron nitride and special ceramics.
SMS IT Demand for R&D & Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) in Sandviken bears global responsibility for the systems supporting product processes and structures for product related information. It also deals with the management of product related documents and data. As support for configurable products and automated processes, we use a system of our own design called CAPP. CAPP stands for Computer Aided Process Planning and is SMS' advanced expert system that automatically creates manufacturing orders, drawings and operation instructions based on customer-driven product configuration. The system is linked to CAD-CAM systems for production drawings, to the order management system for customer order entry and to different production systems for manufacturing orders.
We are now planning for implementation of a global SAP platform for all PLM data. This is a foundation for downstream processes implemented in SAP, as well as support for our product creation processes. In part, this involves implementing a system solution that is fully integrated with our existing automation platforms, and in part leads the development of our future solutions around configurable products and automated processes.
