Free Press Unlimited actively supports these professionals in over forty countries, by offering them, among other things, trainings and temporary financial and material aid, and by strengthening their professional capacity. So that as many people as possible gain and keep access to truly vital information.
The "Ethical Journalism for Syria" programme seeks to support Syrian media actors engage in national-level debate about the future of journalism in their country. The programme will bring together relevant Syrian emerging media organisations to operate under a common charter. Ethical Journalism for Syria seeks to raise the standard of journalism in Syria, specifically by working through its beneficiaries.
Free Press Unlimited is currently seeking to hire a Media Content Analyst. The media analyst has his/her own team to carry out general, quantitative and qualitative research in the production of media evaluation reports, the results of which are used to improve the effectiveness of the outlets content. The analyst is responsible to design a tailored made media content analysis system aimed to record quality and quantity of the content produced by the beneficiaries; the monitoring is expected to produce visuals and reports to indicate possible trends, progress, change, or other phenomena expose the impact of the work produced by the partner media organisations. The reports have a dual aim. The analysis results are useful food to reflect on why, how and for whom the outlet produces news. The reports also expose possible breach of ethical codes that confront the makers with the responsibility of journalism.

Job responsibilities:
- Selecting research methods appropriate to pre-defined needs/goal criteria
- Design and use qualitative and quantitative research tools such as questionnaires, focus groups, interview schedules
- Generate data based on pre-defined indicators
- Analyse research results using a variety of numerical and IT tools
- Summarise and finalise data at the end of projects
- Enter data into databases
- Make presentations
- Ensure set deadlines are met
- Screen and monitor daily news and information content
- Make extensive use of social media content
- Provide monthly and quarterly media content monitoring analysis and qualitative reports.
- Examine targets and target groups impact
- Analyse online traffic/users analytics
- Advise and coach teams for audience behaviour surveys
We're looking for an energetic and driven individual with:
- Proven educational background and/or working methodology in statistical, media content and media monitoring analyses
- Journalism, psychology, communications, media studies, marketing, or management qualifications may be helpful
- Paid/voluntary work experience gained with a media evaluation company or within marketing/PR is desirable
- Know/Understand the historical, political, cultural backgrounds and societal trends of the dealt countries (preferably at the native level)
- Does NOT only rely on software for content analysis. Analysis must be human-centred
And:
- Good analytic skills and ability to monitor, evaluate, and recognise weaknesses, and strengths of media products; must determine form and content of text and other data in a repeatable, consistent fashion
- Good communication and inter-cultural skills
- Systematic, objective and interpersonal in thinking, yet simultaneously flexible and able to incorporate change quickly

- Arabic native speaker or equivalent knowledge of Arabic
