Project Manager (Aquaculture)
WorldFish is working with partners in Myanmar to support the sustainable growth of aquaculture in the Ayeyarwady Delta (Delta) and suitable agro-ecological areas in the Central Dry Zone (CDZ). This new position is intended to support growth in our aquaculture initiatives within the country, providing support to our projects and partners to innovate and scale-out different aquaculture systems suitable to the people and agro-ecologies of the two regions.
An important immediate objective of the position will be to gain better understanding of different aquaculture investments in fresh and brackish waters and identify strategies to stimulate growth in promising aquaculture systems and technologies. Working closely with public, private and civil society partners, this key position will contribute to WorldFish research in development initiatives in Myanmar to support sustainable growth of aquaculture to acheive impact on income and nutrition of poor and vulnerable households.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialist knowledge and experience in sustainable aquaculture to support WorldFish/AAS aquaculture research in development initiatives in Myanmar
- Serve as aquaculture focal point for a donor-funded project supporting research and development of sustainable aquaculture in the Ayerawady delta and Central Dry Zone
- Diagnose aquaculture activities by taking a value chain approach, identify and implement research activities, and connect with partners to support scaling of viable aquaculture systems and technologies
- Engage with government, NGO and private sector partners in design and implementation of project activities
- Identify and support knowledge sharing and capacity building needs with national institutions for research and development of aquaculture
- Support country program managers to ensure timely implementation of project activities and integration of aquaculture initiatives within the WorldFish/AAS country program
Skill Requirements:
- A Master’s degree or PhD in fisheries, natural resources management, aquaculture or social science
- 3-5 years post-graduate professional experience in aquaculture research and/or rural development
- Demonstrated experience in project management and administration, with substantial knowledge in aquaculture and value chain
- Experience in participatory planning and development techniques and livelihoods approaches in support of natural resources management or community development projects;
- Experience in the collection, storage and analysis of social and natural research data
- Experience coordinating multiple team members successfully and working with partners
- Strong leadership, coordination, communication and program management skills and talent, and excellent analytical and writing skills
- Ability to work with a diverse range of partners in civil society, government and community
- Excellent communication skills required with strong command of writing in English
- 2-3 years work experience in Myanmar is desirable
- Proficiency in Myanmar language would be an advantage
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently to field sites
