Infrastructure Architect – Hosting/Midrange
Job description Duties and Responsibilities This position involves analysing end to end IT requirements for IBM customer’s projects to ensure that appropriate hosting infrastructure is designed and implemented in accordance with the client’s requirements and global and local IBM standards. Whilst, the position requires primarily architectural work (dealing with all components of an IT environment: server, network, security, storage, systems management, integration, backup and recovery), it is expected that the IT Architect will be able to understand these technologies at a deeper level. The position will be required to work with other architects (applications, infrastructure etc), IT Specialists, application developers and operations staff to ensure an appropriate solution is designed. The IT Architect will be able to understand and balance requirements from different sources in complex environments and translate these into robust infrastructure designs. 1. Provide the expert technical knowledge and creativity in the development of complex and integrated hosting solutions. Position requires expert knowledge across multiple IBM and other vendor platforms, processes or architectures. 2. Work with customers, from team members to executive levels, to ensure understanding of, acceptance of and satisfaction with IT solution and development approach. Activities directly affect customer satisfaction. Work is visible to and recognised by all levels of customer organization. 3. Engage with the delivery team during development phases in order to develop a technically viable solution, as well as utilise key delivery resources. 4. Understand future customer, industry and information technology trends; possesses the ability to analyse the client's technical and business environment. Apply this understanding to develop conceptual and innovative solutions. Infrastructure includes: • Intel, midrange and mainframe server environments (System p, x86, Sun/Oracle) • VMWare, Windows, Linux, AIX, Solaris, Oracle • Storage technologies, SAN and NAS technologies (IBM, EMC and NetApp) • LAN / WAN and other networking technologies • Operational architecture and modelling • Security infrastructure • Systems management • Virtualisation and consolidation • On-demand and cloud based models (IaaS and PaaS) • Backup and recovery methodologies • BC models and implementation • DR facilities Experience 1. Demonstrated ability to develop integrated hosting solutions, with focus on virtualisation and on-demand solutions. Demonstrate extensive experience in large, complex hosting solutions including consolidation and virtualisation (3yrs plus) 2. Exposure to infrastructure architecture formal methodologies (1yrs plus) 3. Demonstrated business acumen and architectural thinking approach. 4. Recognised as technical leader. 5. Experience in adapting communications and approaches to conclude negotiations with various partners resulting in common agreements. 6. Bachelor's Degree 7. Business skills required: • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills, including interpersonal skills • Ability to work under pressure • Demonstrated track record as a team player • Time management • Large IT account and projects exposure • Significant experience in strategic outsourcing Technical Skills: Non-Technical Skills: | |||||||||||
