Japan Response Program Manager

General Function: The role of the Japan RPM is to work with local partners to build their capacity and aid in the implementation of long term programming in response to the March 2011 disaster in Japan.
Key Relationships: The Japan RPM will maintain relationships with local partners including JEA, local churches and organizations working in the area. S/he will also report to and maintain contacts with WR headquarters specifically the DR unit.

Specific Job Duties:
• Assist JEA in developing and implementing pshysocial trauma programming for their member churches.
• Provide logistical and reporting support to JEA for implementation of response programming on phsco-social activities.
• Assist and coordinate activities of WR physco-social personnel in Japan.
• Provide technical guidance and assistance in developing and implementing programming in the affected area.
• Assisting in ensuring compliance with international standards including (but not limited too) The IFRC Code of Conduct and (where applicable) Sphere Standards.
• Work with local partners to assist them actualize and plan their programmatic priorities.
• Represent WR at partner meetings and external communications.
• Assist partner entities in developing their local capacity, including but not limited too financial, logistical tracking and proposal design.
• Assist local partners in developing proposals and budgets for programming goals.
• Provide programmatic reporting and communications materials (stories, pictures etc.) to the DR unit leadership.
• Identify technical holes and identify mechanisms for strengthening local partners in those areas.
• Assist in coordinating programmatic or communications visits from WR personnel.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
• Bachelor’s degree in related field or in social sciences.
• Organizational and logistical skills.
• Personal commitment to the mission of World Relief.

Experience Required:
• 3-5 years of Disaster Experience.
•Japanese native or lived in Japan for extended period of time (10+ years)
• Completely fluent in Japanese (written & spoken).
• Experience in mobilizing and training CBOs.


Physical Demands:
• Keyboarding
• Ability to travel and spend time in areas of occasionally limited comfort.
• The RPM will be based in Tokyo but will spend significant time in the affected area (up to 75%).
