Youth Campaign Coordinator Global Human Rights Defence

Who are we looking for?
Global Human Rights Defence (GHRD) is a nongovernmental organization dealing with human rights particularly in south Asia. We are based in The Hague, and are looking for a young student or recent graduate based in the Netherlands who would like to gain experience in the field of international NGOs as the coordinator of youth activities in The Netherlands as part of our campaign against human trafficking.

Job requirements

  • Enthusiastic, dynamic, passionate and committed student or recent graduate interested in working within a multi-cultural, multi-functional environment and willing to gain experience within an international organization;
  • Connections with Dutch and European student and youth associations, possibly with a lengthy active participation in them and a well established contact network;
  • Albeit previous experience in the area is not required, s/he must have a firm commitment to human rights;
  • The student must be Dutch, or fluent in written and spoken Dutch, as well as English, as much of the communication will be conducted in English;
  • Knowledge of youth projects such as Youth in Action is an asset.

Job Description

The Campaign Coordinator will be responsible of:

  • Coordinating various activities addressed to young people in the Netherlands and Europe, taking place under the campaign “Fight Modern Slavery” in the Netherlands. The overall campaign consists in conferences and events taking place both in South Asia (India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Bhutan) and in Europe aimed to raise awareness on the topic of human rights violations, minorities’ rights and women and children trafficking;
  • Coordinating the distribution activities for the documentary SOLD – A child trafficked (screening in schools, universities, youth associations, cinemas, etc);
  • Promoting youth activism in the human rights field as well as recruiting and motivating students to participate in awareness raising activities and demonstrations against human trafficking based in the Netherlands;
  • Organizing debates in youth groups and associations;
  • Acting as a liaison with youth media channel.

The job will be on a voluntary basis, requiring a commitment of 1 to 2 working days per week, or alternatively an intern contract requiring a 4 day commitment. The position will be effective immediately, and operates until December.
