University Lecturer in Engineering Science (Information Engineering)

DEPARTMENT OF ENGINEERING SCIENCE in association with Exeter College

The Department of Engineering Science proposes to appoint a University Lecturer in Engineering Science (Information Engineering) from 1 September 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will work at the Department of Engineering Science and will be offered a Tutorial Fellowship at Exeter College under arrangements described in the further particulars. The combined University and College salary will be on a scale currently from £42,883 p.a. The appointment will be initially for five years at which point, upon completion of a successful review, the postholder will be eligible for reappointment to the retiring age.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in Information Engineering, including a doctorate. Candidates should have a proven research track record witnessed by peer reviewed publications and collaborations and relevant teaching experience. S/he will be expected to contribute to the teaching of undergraduate courses in the Department of Engineering Science, which may include lectures, tutorials and practical classes, and the supervision of undergraduate design and project work, and pastoral care of students in College. S/he will be expected to contribute to the Information Engineering research group obtaining external funding to enable development of excellent independent research.

The department is looking to appoint an individual whose research activity will expand or complement existing strengths in machine vision, surveillance, statistical signal processing, machine learning, sensing, autonomy and robotics. Although no restriction is placed on the specialised area of research interest, applications in modern applied machine vision and perception, graphics and signal/image processing are welcome.

This post is being advertised at the same time as a similar University Lectureship associated with a fellowship at New College. Unless a candidate indicates that they wish to be considered for only one of these posts, any candidate for either post will automatically also be considered as a candidate for the other. There is no need for separate applications for the two posts.
