The Youth Empowerment Fund (YEF) of the Department of Children, Youth, and their Families (DCYF) has responded to the need to increase the impact and effectiveness of youth voice in San Francisco by developing this position. The YEF and DCYF work to align funding priorities and provide guidance to the programming developed through this initiative. For the Youth Leadership and Advocacy Coordinator position, the Community Youth Center (CYC) serves as the administrative and fiscal agency and provides technical support as needed.

Job Description:

The Youth Leadership and Advocacy Coordinator is a part-time position to be hired immediately. This position will work closely with youth leadership bodies and community-based youth organizations throughout San Francisco and requires a dynamic, communicative, and passionate leader who can work with diverse groups of people. The Youth Leadership and Advocacy Coordinator reports to the Youth Empowerment Fund Program Director to coordinate the planning and implementation of leadership and advocacy efforts for and by youth in San Francisco. This is a temporary position through December 31, 2013 with potential for full time hire extension beyond that date.

Job responsibilities include:

• Represent YEF and DCYF goals, values, and mission to the community members of San Francisco, local organizations, government representatives, and general stakeholders.
• Organize and execute all aspects of the Youth Warrior Award and Fellowship, a leadership development program for youth leaders from community-based organizations:
• Coordinate outreach, review, and selection of Youth Warriors
• Develop and facilitate Youth Warrior trainings, leadership development, advocacy efforts, and community engagement, and
• Manage intake process, development plans, and documentation of Youth Warrior Fellows
• Co- coordinate and outreach for the annual Youth Advocacy Day, a citywide civic engagement event where youth learn about city government and meet with various city officials.
• Organize a State Capitol trip for San Francisco youth to visit and meet state representatives
• Help plan, coordinate, and evaluate the Gatherings for Change (G4C) Mini-Grants Program:
• Work with YEF Program Director to determine annual funding criteria and strategies,
• Create the Request for Proposals, application, and selection process,
• Outreach to community to youth and community organizations to apply to G4C Mini-Grant,
• Provide technical support to G4C applicants and grantees, as needed,
• Promote and aid in marketing G4C-funded events, and
• Collect documentation and project evaluations from G4C grantees.
• Actively participate in YEF planning and assessment, monthly reporting, evaluation, documentation requirements, research requests, and other program details, as requested by YEF Program Director or DCYF Directors.
• Provide administrative and logistical support for Youth Empowerment Fund including: processing checks, maintaining financial records, communicating with fiscal sponsor, maintaining client information in Contract Management System, and documenting meeting minutes.
• Work with YEF Program Director to develop and maintain relationships with San Francisco Youth Commission, YEF Staff, YEF Grantees, other youth-serving organizations in San Francisco, and the general public.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Political Science, other related fields or equivalent experience.
• Two years experience in youth development, community organizing, public policy, and/or advocacy work.
• Must exhibit leadership ability, have excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work with representatives of government agencies, community-based organizations and the business community.
• Knowledge about diverse cultures and ability to provide competency in working with youth and communities of racial, cultural, ethnic and sexual differences.
• Knowledge of computer software, particularly MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently and as an active team member.
• Knowledge of and familiarity with social service resources available for youth in San Francisco.
• Access to a vehicle, valid California State driver's license, decent driving record and carry $100K/$300K liability insurance coverage.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Compensation: $15 per hour
