Manager, Data & Learning - Foundation Partnerships

Reporting to the Senior Director, Foundation Partnerships, the Manager for Data & Learning will assist in: 

• Cultivating, managing and growing Foundation Partnerships’ current portfolio of complex, multi-year grant programs with leading U. S. private foundations, including reporting, tracking, compliance/governance, contracts, and relationship management with multiple foundation partners and other key internal/external stakeholders. Special focus will be on the following:

o Development and management of grants/grant-based initiatives that will effectively leverage U. S. private foundations and other key partners in support of UNICEF’s work in bringing results-based innovations to scale, including programs featuring data and monitoring, social innovation/entrepreneurship, technology for development, etc.

o Day-to-day management and further development of existing grant portfolio that focuses on global/local data and monitoring of results for children, technology for development.

Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):

• Contribute to the development and implementation of an external visibility strategy to increase the public profile of UNICEF’s work that is funded by U. S. private foundations and key partners, including outreach and communications platforms, convenings, and the creation of a Special Advisors group.

• Serve as a point of contact with multiple partners for specific projects that include U. S. private foundations and other global development stakeholders, coordinate necessary internal and external resources to ensure all grant programs are effectively executed and partners’ needs are fully met.

• Draft key Foundations and grant stewardship documents, in whole or in part, including grant proposals, reports, and presentations intended for a wide variety of purposes and audiences.

• Conduct due diligence to identify legal, procedural and financial issues for potential grants prior to proposal submission/approval, as well as over the life of multi-year grant projects.

• Prepare and deliver detailed and timely reports/presentations 
to internal and external stakeholders on the progress of UNICEF’s partnerships with foundations.

• Conduct key research to help formulate partnership strategies and identify partners and relationships that will serve the organization’s mission and goals.

• Support the Foundation Partnerships team’s development and implementation of their annual growth strategy, reporting to the Senior Director.

• Liaise with other U.S. Fund for UNICEF departments and UNICEF staff to ensure successful implementation of Foundation Partnerships’ strategy and partnership initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree in international development, international relations, global/public health, public policy/advocacy, economics or a related field strongly preferred. 

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in U. S. private foundation grants cultivation and management, with demonstrated track record of successfully achieving funding for as well as administering large-scale projects.

• Knowledge of, and preferably direct experience with, grant-making rules, regulations and policies of U. S. private foundations as well as federal grant-making institutions.

• Familiarity with current global health/development issues, UN agencies strongly preferred.

• Experience in helping to lead, formulate and improve initiatives for leading U. S. public institutions that focus on education, visibility and/or shared learning strongly preferred.

• Ability to contribute to proposals, reports, research and presentations that are client-ready and reflect analytical thinking, creativity and a clear understanding of both the prospective partner’s requirements and USF’s programs and assets.

• Proven ability to prioritize, work independently, handle multiple, complex tasks simultaneously, generate pragmatic solutions to address potential roadblocks as well as leverage key opportunities.

• Ability to navigate complex environments; help build relationships with a variety of different institutions.

• Strong “client service” orientation and interpersonal as well as negotiation skills, quantitative and analytical skills, and written/verbal communication skills.
