Sector Group Manager for the European Fine Chemicals Group (EFCG)


Ceficthe European Chemical Industry Council, is both the forum and voice of the European chemical industry. It aims to maintain and develop a prosperous chemical industry in Europe by promoting the best possible economic, social and environmental conditions to bring benefits to society.
Cefic is located in Brussels (Auderghem) and employs more than 160 people.
For its department Fine, Specialty & Consumer Chemicals (FSCC), Cefic is looking for a (M/F):
Sector Group Manager for the European Fine Chemicals Group (EFCG)
Responsibilities
  • Reports jointly to the EFCG Board Chairman (a senior industrialist) and a Cefic FSCC Director to set strategy and financial objectives;
  • Oversees all EFCG operations and activities;
  • Identifying relevant issues, proposing objectives and priorities, defining and agreeing on action plans in order to produce added value for the members and the industry as a whole;
  • Driving the process of consensus-building and position-taking in order to reach a consensus between all parties involved;
  • Setting up, steering and managing project and financial management plans and obtain the necessary resources in order to be efficient in daily operations and future action plans;
  • Managing and coaching internal and external team members in order to secure the level of technical and political expertise to achieve the objectives;
  • Creating and managing an effective interface with relevant members, stakeholders and decision-making bodies at national, European and international level in order to enhance EFCG’s ability to be involved in the decision making process;
  • Ensuring the effective advocacy (contacts with regulatory or policy setting bodies) and communication (publications, seminars, websites, extranet,…) of the industry positions;
  • Establishing, maintaining and extending the network of relationships and alliances with various industrial players and customers in order to enhance the EFCG/Cefic ability to get the industry’s sector position across;
  • Monitoring, analysing and interpreting of the existing and proposed policies & government legislation and its impact on member company activities;
  • Managing EFCG’s marketing, PR and the recruitment of new members.
Skills & competencies
  • University degree (chemistry or chemical engineering);
  • Business management experience (minimum 10 years) with decision-making responsibilities ideally at a senior level;
  • Working experience within an international chemical company/companies and working with associations similar to Cefic;
  • Self-starter, self-disciplined and decisive;
  • Strategic and analytical thinker;
  • Knowledge of the global fine chemicals industry, its players, markets, laws and regulations;
  • Good working knowledge of the EU and other political arenas and strong advocacy skills;
  • Proficient level in English (both spoken and written), knowledge of other European languages are an asset;
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills;
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft Office package);
