Professorship in the dissemination of research and science

The dissemination of research and science is a key task for the University of Oslo and is intended to enhance the understanding of what science is, to generate greater insight into scientific methods and processes and to make research findings widely known in society.
The dissemination of science means the dissemination of knowledge, scientific working methods and attitudes in specialized fields of research to people outside this field, and also aims to contribute to producing an open and informed exchange of views based on scientific reasoning.  Another goal should be to engender wonderment and curiosity.
A professorship in the dissemination of science has been established as a specific measure to achieve these objectives. The professorship will be placed in a relevant academic environment.
The successful candidate will conduct research, supervise, teach and disseminate both his/her own and others’ research, as well as contributing to the dissemination of science in general. The work will have a cross-disciplinary orientation, and the appointee should participate in the public debate when the dissemination of science is on the agenda.
In order to train young researchers in research dissemination, the bulk of the teaching involved in the professorship will form part of PhD programmes. The position also entails developing new and suitable forums for communication between the general public and researchers from specialized subject areas and institutions.
The teaching language is Norwegian, or another Scandinavian language, and English. The applicant will be expected to be able to teach in Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) within a year of the date of the appointment.
Closing date: 7th November, 2013
