Position Summary

The BG Canada Communications Specialist will provide comprehensive internal and external communications support for the company’s current and future responsibilities in western Canada. 

The position will help develop and implement our communications strategy in line with business objectives. In close coordination with the BG Canada Communications Manager and Houston-based communications team, the BG Canada Communications Specialist will have responsibility for internal and external communications, the latter including, social media, event planning, and marketing/branding, crisis communications and Canadian, provincial and community media outreach.

Key Accountabilities

The jobholder must understand how effective communications (external, internal and crisis) will assist BG Canada in delivering its business objectives, in line with BG Group’s communications policy and branding guidelines. 

Specific accountabilities:
• Responsibility for supporting development and implementation of BG Canada’s communications strategy, including materials design and development; 
• Responsibility for developing a social media platform and website for BG Canada;
• Project management/delivery of external stakeholder events (e.g. conferences, exhibitions, VIP visits, stakeholder events, etc); and
• Responsibility for the internal communications needs of BG Canada

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute

Experience Needed:
 
• Preferred candidate will have at a minimum, 3 years of professional communications experience in British Columbia, preferably in the energy sector or a related industry such as mining, forestry or clean technology;
• Experience in communication strategy design and development, including social media communication strategy design;
• Experience with internal branding and why this is important;
• Experience in managing large highly complex events and corporate hospitality;
• Experience in conducting communications audits; and
• Some level of experience in facilitating media interaction
 
Specialist Knowledge:
 
• Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field;
• Excellent written and verbal skills;
• Social media skills
• High degree of knowledge and experience regarding external and internal communications;
• Ability to engage senior management in discussions regarding communications strategy.

Skills:
 
• Strategic thinking & planning – important for developing the strategic communications plan;
• Creative in developing communications approaches and materials for different audiences;
• Analytical skills – these are important in determining the best course of action for a particular program as well as developing budgets, etc;
• Engaging others – key to ensuring support for communications programs and policies;
• Strong organization and project management skills;
• Very high-level of written and verbal communication skills;
• Teamwork/team building; and 
• Demonstrating cultural awareness.

• Commercial aptitude; and 
• Self-starter capable of developing and implementing a communications strategy.

 Special Features:
 
Must be able to travel extensively, sometimes internationally and work hours outside a traditional business day from time to time.
