The role

We are currently seeking a talented Design Engineer Tunnels (Tunnels & Geotechnics) to work closely with our other specialists in (South Asia).

Responsibilities:

• This is a senior position for a tunnel design engineer with minimum 8 years of experience in the design of tunnels and other underground structures. Site experience is highly recommended.
• The position involves leadership of tunnel design teams, and requires the ability to plan and execute tunnel design work.
• You will also be required to supervise, check and review tunnel and related designs and mentor junior engineers in detail design tasks
• Strictly adhere to SMEC's Business Management System (BMS).

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Applicants will be required to demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:
• Appropriate degree from a university.
• Experience in tunnel and underground structures design based on NATM principles, with demonstrated experience on large scale infrastructure projects. Experience of TBM tunnel design is an added bonus.
• Experience in design management for tunnels and underground structures (including leading design teams).
• Ability to provide in-depth knowledge, expertise and sound judgement in tunnel design.
• Knowledge and experience in application of International design, materials, quality and safety standards related to tunnel design.
• Design knowhow of road and railway tunnels is highly appreciated. Design experience of hydropower projects is an added bonus.
• Rock tunnelling experience in challenging rock conditions, including large deformations and water bearing formations is highly appreciated. The position focuses on rock tunnelling. Soft ground tunnelling (metro, etc) experience is an added bonus. Experience in an Alpine environment (Himalayas, Alps, Andes, etc) is highly appreciated.
• Understanding and experience with interdisciplinary aspects of underground space design.
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to relate to clients and peers.
• Pro-active and reliable nature
