Contractor - Electrical Equipment Engineer

Position Summary
The BG operated Jackdaw discovery in the Central North Sea is the company’s largest undeveloped resource in the UK. It is classified as an ultra HP/HT reservoir with shut in bottom hole pressure of 1175bar and reservoir temperature of 200 deg C. Jackdaw will be the first operated uHP/HT development project that BG has undertaken and will have a significant impact on its future business plans.
As a member of the Jackdaw Project Management Team, the Engineer will provide electrical equipment engineering input into the Jackdaw FEED and later stages of this ultra High Pressure High Temperature (uHPHT) CNS development project.
Key Accountabilities

The Engineer is accountable for the development and execution of the pre-sanction electrical equipment engineering scope using appropriate resources. The Engineer will support the Jackdaw Engineering Manager in assuring that the development meets BG PMS (Project Management System) and TAS (Technical Assurance System) compliance specifically including the Project’s adopted Electrical Engineering Standards.
The Engineer will be the owner of the electrical equipment engineering elements of the Jackdaw Development Basis of Design. If necessary in conjunction with the Global Technical Authority in BG Advance (the BG standards’ custodian), deviation requests to relevant standards shall be managed. The Engineer will make recommendations on change proposals; sign-off consultancy reports and be the principal Electrical Discipline Engineer on the Jackdaw Project.
Additionally, the Engineer has responsibilities to:
- Participate in the supplier tender process including development of scope, input to the tender evaluation and clarification activities
- Review design deliverables
- Participate in safety activities
- Participate in Peer Assists, Peer Reviews, HSSE reviews and Value Improving Workshops
- Liaise with Operations to ensure that maintainability issues are addressed in the design process
- Work with design Contractor’s Interface Engineers to ensure that interfaces are well controlled
- Recognize where the application of technology is novel or where key parameters such as equipment size or duty exceed known references
- Assist in developing, implementing and managing the key quality and integrity processes required to ensure that the topsides electrical equipment is in accordance with BG Group requirements
- Assist in facilitating the IVB process as it relates to electrical engineering and verification
- Ensure Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) is suitably defined and take part in FATs, as necessary
- Actively engage in the Project Risk Management process to identify and manage risks; take ownership of, and close-out assigned risks
- Ensure that lessons learned and best practices from past and existing projects and operations are integrated into the Jackdaw equipment selection, fabrication, testing and commissioning

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Educated to first degree level in a relevant discipline; a chartered member of a relevant engineering institution or international equivalent.
Experience in the execution stage of a major, green-field offshore processing facility in the North Sea is essential.
Expectation of contribution at Principal Engineer level
The Engineer will possess skill in project execution processes associated with large, green-field upstream oil and gas developments.
The Engineer will work collaboratively with the other development team members, and consultatively with relevant functional members of both Europe E&P in Aberdeen and BG Advance (BGA) in Reading.
Excellent interpersonal skills and fluent English are prerequisites for the position.
Specific skills and experience required:
- Electrical design and execution (power generation/electric drives/power distribution) and transient analysis experience is essential with thorough knowledge of software used in electrical design for oil and gas field development applications specifically for UKCS North Sea environment.
- Implementation of international electrical engineering standards.
- Collaborative working with certifying and verification bodies.
- Knowledge of breadth and depth of electrical engineering needed to manage the quality control of contractor technical work; ensuring appropriate techniques and standards are adopted.
- Experience of onshore and offshore platform equipment commissioning and start-up.
- Have a good working knowledge of electrical safety in design and construction and application of electrical safety rules
- Ability to find and communicate to contractors, in a proactive way, solutions that meet project requirements.
- Commenting on documents and drawings in a constructive manner that identifies non compliances and errors.
- Good understanding of interfacing disciplines.
- Has good working knowledge of basic business principles (finance, commercial, etc).
