Manager – Community Land Access Management

Barrick (Papua New Guinea) Limited, the operator of the Porgera Mine, is part of the Barrick Gold Corporation group of companies which has interests in mines in Australia, the Porgera mine in Papua New Guinea and exploration interests throughout the region.

Position Objective
We seek to appoint a Manager – Community Land Access Management to coordinate and facilitate Land Administration and Relocation for the Porgera Operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Management of monitoring systems and processes for the acquisition of land for mining purposes, the administration of all existing leases and easements and the relocation and compensation of landowners affected by the Porgera operations including management of lands-related grievances
• Develop and implement systems and processes for the efficient management of Land Administration and Relocation including the implementation and management of the Barrick standard Land Information System.

To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:
• Recognised tertiary qualifications in in area pertaining to human geography and / or community development / land resettlement
• Experience with international best practice in land access and management in the mining industry and with involuntary resettlement, including preparation of Relocation Action Plans
• Demonstrated international experience in design, planning and implementation of resettlement programs, preferably in the extractive industry and in a Melanesian/Pacific context
• Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement generally and specifically in undertaking negotiations with traditional communities to achieve mutually acceptable outcomes under complex socio-cultural conditions
• The ability to coach, mentor and train supervisors across multiple disciplines to a high standard
• The ability and willingness to train and develop national employees
• Current Drivers Licence.
