Enforcement Officer , BEUC - European Consumer Organisation

BEUC, the European Consumer Organisation, is currently looking for a senior officer to work on EU legal issues relevant to consumers to assist the BEUC Secretariat and our members in campaigning to influence EU policies. The position will focus on improving the enforcement of EU legislation of relevance to consumers by co-ordination our members activities in this respect.
With at least 5 years of experience in a position dealing with application of EU legislation, you will report to the Deputy Director General.

The tasks of the position will include:

  • Co-ordinating consumer law enforcement activities by and between our members;
  • Expanding and maintaining the BEUC member expert network;
  • Co-ordinating strategic advice on enforcement activities for and from members; and
  • Promoting the exchange of best practices with the aim of improving public and private enforcement of consumer rights in the EU;
  • Developing policy input and evidence for promoting a European consumer law enforcement policy and an efficient EU law tool box for the enforcement of consumer rights promoting a stronger involvement of consumer organisations into the work of the authorities and co-operation with them in this respect;
  • To do so, the officer will:
    • develop a mid- (3-years) and short (annual) - term strategy for the co-ordination of our members enforcement activities;
    • identify suitable topics for enforcement actions based on our members’ input; and
    • promote best practices in enforcement as well as the involvement of consumers in the application and enforcement EU regulation.

The main qualifications that we are looking for are:

  • An advanced university degree in law;
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in a position related to the application and enforcement of EU/national law;
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills in English are essential;
  • Very good communication skills;
  • Excellent knowledge of the EU institutions;
  • Very good knowledge of Union law enforcement instruments and policy such as consumer interest injunctions, collective redress, consumer alternative-dispute settlement;
  • Experience in co-operating with a EU wide organisational network is an asset;
  • Interest in and willingness to learn about consumer affairs.
