Crisis Action

Director of Middle East and North Africa

Salary: Competitive International Salary according to experience
Full-time post
Location: Cairo

You may not have heard of us, as we work behind the scenes, but Crisis Action is at the forefront of global advocacy. We are looking for a creative, effective and dynamic person to take our Middle East and North Africa presence to the next level of impact.

Our job is to tackle the causes and consequences of armed conflict head on. We work behind the scenes to create and support strategic coalitions to avert unnecessary conflicts and ensure the protection of civilians where the threat of conflict exists. Whether working on Sudan, Syria or Gaza, you’ll be on the front line of global advocacy – working with the best experts and civil society organizations to convince governments to take action.

Since its establishment in 2009, our Middle East and North Africa office has built up a network of over 200 civil society groups from 18 countries across the region. Crisis Action has mobilised this network to deliver cutting-edge advocacy and campaigning in the region on Sudan, Gaza and in response to the MENA 2011 revolutions.

As Director of Middle East and North Africa, you will build up our civil society network across the region and lead our thinking on how to work most effectively in the Arab world. In collaboration with Crisis Action’s regional partners as well as international partner organizations such as Oxfam, International Crisis Group and Human Rights Watch, you will be responsible for forging high-profile international campaigns, driving regional media coverage and delivering effective high-level advocacy to key decision-makers in the region.

We are looking for someone with a strategic brain and a track record of delivering results and impact. You should have excellent analysis of foreign policy and regional politics, high-level experience of campaigning or advocacy and first rate contacts within the region. You should be comfortable leading and managing a small office.

If you like routine, relish bureaucracy or are looking to put your feet up, this job isn’t for you. If you’re hungry for a challenge, have limitless energy and think you can help us and our partners influence some of the world’s most powerful people, then go to www.crisisaction.org for an application pack.
