Description:

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) seeks a motivated and experienced communications and external affairs professional to serve as Coordinator of External Affairs through late November with potential for long-term employment.

The Coordinator of External Affairs will be responsible for the strategic planning and execution of ISW events, press and media engagements, publicity, marketing and advertising, website management and government relations. The candidate must be an experienced communications manager with the ability to handle diverse responsibilities and multiple projects under tight deadlines. Applicants should have hands-on experience with media pitching, large-scale event planning, and congressional affairs. He/she is expected to increase the name identification of the ISW brand while also assisting the research staff in the promotion of their products and policy proposals though creative new media efforts, public events, media engagement, and congressional outreach.

Qualification:

• 4 to 6 years professional experience in communications, public relations, media relations advertising/marketing, government/congressional relations and/or event production.
• Prior management experience; proven leadership skills.
• Excellent relationships, personal contacts, and demonstrated success with Congressional and media engagement
• Ability to oversee multiple projects including: website development and content, marketing/advertising of ISW products, ability to garner earned media, increase ISW brand image, new media and social media outreach, event planning and government relations.
• Knowledge of foreign policy, especially matters pertaining to Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Persian Gulf
• Excellent writing skills.
• Interest and Enthusiasm for ISW's research agenda and mission.

The Coordinator reports to the President and Deputy Director.
