Head – Infrastructure, Energy & Basic Services Team & Deputy Head Private Sector DepartmentLondon
Salary £59,994 progressing to £68,221
The Department for International Development (DFID) leads the UK Government's fight against world poverty and sees private investment and business playing a central role in this endeavour.
You will lead work to stimulate more and better private investment and involvement in infrastructure and basic services for economic development and wealth creation in the poorer developing countries. This will involve scaling up and extending DFID involvement in sectors such as energy, transport, communications and water & sanitation – and taking forward new programmes in health, education and other basic services. You will lead and be an active member of a team responsible for planning, policy, strategy and innovation in these areas, and for implementing and substantial and growing portfolio of programmes in developing countries. An important part of your role will be to maintain and extend DFID's relationships with financial institutions, business, Whitehall, civil society and other development agencies.

You will have the opportunity to deploy your ideas, creativity and initiative to help deliver a step-change in the way we engage with business and stimulate private investment in infrastructure and basic services of the world's poorest countries; improving life for millions of poor people.
Essentially you should hold a relevant degree and have valuable experience in finance and/or business. You should also demonstrate a deep understanding of private sector infrastructure and basic services in developing countries.
