International Human Rights Education Network and Communications Coordinator

Fixed-term contract ending 31st December 2012

£34,032

London

Be part of a small, dynamic team that promotes our human rights education work. Whether you’re harnessing new media, coordinating and implementing communications plans or sharing lessons learned, you’ll make sure our International HRE Network interacts more innovatively and more effectively.

About the role Human rights education is fundamental to our work. Harnessing this internationally recognised method of promoting human rights locally, nationally and globally, we use it to encourage people to respect, promote and defend human rights for all. You’ll coordinate all members of the Amnesty International HRE Network, using growth, mobilisation and organisational development models to encourage them to share information, methodologies, knowledge, experience and current thinking. In the process, you’ll not only help us capitalise on our combined skills and resources; you’ll enable us to generate even better results. As well as developing and implementing communications plans and materials, it means identifying and promoting best practice approaches, offering advice and support on the best ways to reproduce lessons learned. Critically, you’ll keep relevant websites and online resources up to date – everything from our HRE Network website to ebulletins and email lists. In fact, creating web content, case studies, briefings, presentations and audio visual materials for multicultural, multilingual audiences will be vital to your role.

About you Having already worked with international networks, you’ll understand – and have addressed – the complexities and challenges of maintaining them. What’s more, you’ll have managed and facilitated communication with network members, using information communication technologies and information system databases. So you’ll know how to maintain websites, run community forums and moderate user-generated content. We’ll also look for proven experience of online promotion, networking and activism. It’s a background that will show you can tailor different communications to different audiences and build productive working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts. Just as importantly, you’ll understand the methodologies and practice of human rights education.

About us Our aim is simple: an end to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for justice, fairness, freedom and truth wherever they’re denied. Already our network of almost three million members and supporters is making a difference in 150 countries. And whether we’re applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations, human rights education, or online campaigning, we’re all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.
