Regional Human Resources Manager (With Local Terms and Conditions)
We work in 7 countries which are: Cote d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda and Sierra Leone. We are a participating member in Uganda. Three among those 7 countries fall within Save the Children “list” of fragile states (Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo and Cote d’Ivoire). Our Regional office is based in Dakar, Senegal.
Throughout the region we provide a broad range of strategies thus achieving a successful outcome in the main thematic areas where we work which are Protection, Education, Health and Emergencies. We have consolidated our long-standing programme base in health, education and protection, started to develop more work in hunger reduction and social protection. The region will also be key in implementing Save the Children’s newborn and child survival campaign. In 2008, Save the Children UK reached thousands of children directly through our work with partners at community and district levels, thus achieving notable policy changes at national level that should reach hundreds of thousands more in the future and that is the reason why we need you.
But despite all our efforts the challenges are huge in a region which encompasses some countries ranked among the poorest in the world.
In order to contribute to our efforts you will have qualified HR skills and/or 5 years of proven relevant experience in a complex organisation dealing with people management issues and involving international staff. The skills you would have developed through areas such as Learning and Development, Resourcing, Compensation and Benefits, Employee Relations and Communications will enable you to be strategically sound within this position. You are also able to successfully work without supporting resources and able to influence strategic HR outcomes internationally with minimal process or intervention. Within this position, your self-evident interpersonal skills will allow you to be approachable and able to proactively resolve people issues maturely and with minimal disruption. Your ability to develop creative, innovative and geographically relevant HR ideas and skills along with your ability to make dotted line relationship(s) work smoothly will help in outlining the leadership competence and broad vision that will allow the Global HR Director’s comfort in delegating responsibility fully and encourage country HR experts to develop and innovate. Your ability to succinctly speak and write clearly in French and English and your ability to travel internationally for 60 to 80 days a year Your international experience within the voluntary sector and the field-based environment along with your ability to speak relevant international/national languages of the region to an effective standard will definitely be an added bonus.
Our selection processes reflect our commitment to the protection of children from abuse. Our people are as diverse as the challenges we face.
