Senior Portfolio Strategist

Gareth Morgan Investments (GMI) is a privately-owned investment management business. We have three main products: private portfolio management; a superannuation scheme and a KiwiSaver scheme. We are a global investment manager and currently manage funds of over NZ$1.5 billion. We employ 45 staff mainly at our head office in Wellington's CBD.

GMI is expanding its investment strategy team. We seek the services of a senior portfolio strategist to assist in formulating our decision-making around tactical asset allocation and selection of investment themes. Our portfolios are globally focussed so an understanding of international economies and investment markets will be central to the role. The position also includes providing regular written and video commentary to the public on investment market matters through our own communication channels and the media.

This is a pivotal role in our team of six and the successful candidate will play a big part not just in formulating investment decisions but also in communicating those decisions to clients, colleagues and the public.

You will have:

- Energy and passion for understanding global trends and events and translating them into sound investment calls.
- A good understanding of investment theory and investor psychology and behaviour, direct portfolio management experience, and top-down investment strategy formulation.
- An ability to make decisions based on rigorous economic analysis, robust discussion and prudential judgement
- The ability to work in unstructured situations and deal with unplanned and unexpected events.
- Superior communication skills, with the ability to communicate in plain English to a public audience.
- Broad life and work experience and a high degree of confidence in a wide range of situations.
- Sound judgement, pragmatism and common sense are key requirements for the role.
- A minimum of 10 years experience.
