FLSA status: Exempt Full-time Employee for two-year term with possibility of extension

Purpose of job
To organize, coordinate and manage projects related to data policy and governance. To perform research and analysis on data governance topics across relevant sectors—particularly for science—and communicate results and recommendations from the project via writing and related outreach.

Essential duties and responsibilities
• Coordinate and manage projects within the data governance project, aligning project tasks and outreach, analysis and reporting, budgeting and staffing.
• Analyze project tasks to identify required expertise and staff resources, and recruit those resources as needed from within and outside Creative Commons.
• Perform research and analysis as needed for project deliverables, and develop expert written reports, briefs, articles, case studies, blog posts and other communications related to data governance and project work.
• Represent Creative Commons at project-related and other events and in the Open Data and Open Science communities.
• Collaborate closely with management team grant writing and background materials on issues related to data governance and relevant project results.
• Identify and recruit key stakeholders in data governance from across relevant sectors (e.g. science, government, higher education, libraries, research funders, publishers) as potential CC adopters and supporters. Prepare written and verbal materials to support that recruitment as needed.

Education requirements
Relevant Master’s degree with two years of relevant experience or relevant bachelor’s with five years of relevant experience.

Experience requirements
• Management of content-related projects in scientific, technology, data, higher education, government, or related sectors.
• Management of complex, multi-year and multi-partner projects that include significant research and analysis.
• Familiarity with policy analysis, development and processes.
• Familiarity with Open Source Software, Open Access/Open Data or other Open content projects.
• Science and/or legal background highly desirable.
• International experience in above highly desirable.

Skill requirements
• Demonstrable expertise in project management techniques and tools.
• Excellent research and analytical skills.
• Superb writing and editing skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and external communications skills, including listening, and public speaking.
• Proficiency in technology tools for communication, including word processing and online content publication platforms such as blogs and wikis.
• Basic understanding of intellectual property law and Open Licensing.
• Independent and self-motivated worker, able to work with limited day-to-day oversight and supervision.
• Ability to attend to detail, grasp technical information, establish priorities, manage multiple tasks, and drive extended projects to successful completion.
• Highest level of ethics and integrity in professional matters.
• Fluent in English.
• Ability to travel, including internationally.

Located in Mountain View. Collaborative, community-building atmosphere grounded in an environment of mutual respect and trust. The facility is an open pod setting in downtown Mountain View, California, easily accessible via car and public transportation. Amenities include a communal kitchen and free parking. Laptop/desktop computer and ergonomically conscious office supplies and space provided. Travel, as needed (including local bay area and possible domestic/international flying).
