Quality Systems Design and Development Manager


About the job:
CSIR SharedServices unit has a vacancy for a Quality Systems Design and Development Manager. The incumbent’s role will be to design, develop, deploy, and maintain integrated business systems for the management of laboratory, business and operational processes based on acceptable international quality standards including but not limited to ISO 9001, 17025, GLP and other best practice that promote science, engineering and technology (SET) operational and business excellence. This position is based in Pretoria.
Key responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, deploy and facilitate the management of an integrated, effective and efficient total quality management system capable of supporting compliance requirements to all applicable quality standards and regulations.
  • Facilitate the review and analysis of system and process requirements in collaboration with the relevant functions and ensure the implementation of recommended changes to quality system tools to ensure continued effectiveness, efficiency of the system and process standardisation.
  • In consultation with the relevant functions, develop and maintain information management systems to facilitate monitoring and evaluation activities, including effective change and incident management systems.
  • Provide specialist advisory service on quality systems and standards and lead all new process and system initiatives, as well as improvement initiatives and ensure that  developed systems meet client requirements and current best practice.
  • Together with the relevant function, develop and maintain a system supporting the identification, consolidation, dissemination and monitoring of implementation of quality best practice principles within the organisation.
  • Ensure developed systems enable all facets of configuration management including guidance on the management of standardised centralised and decentralised document and data management processes.
  • Develop and manage the implementation of a framework with supporting procedures and processes for the appropriate maintenance of laboratory infrastructure, and through multidisciplinary team, manage its effective implementation and improvement.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field or quality management coupled with a Master’s level qualification in quality management. A relevant IT qualification is an advantage.
  • A minimum of three to five years’ experience at laboratory, research or quality management level.
  • Extensive experience in integrated SHEQ system design, development, implementation and auditing.
  • Sound knowledge of ISO 9001, 17025, GLP, PMBOK and other related standards.
  • Sound knowledge of research methodologies.
  • Strategic and systems thinking and highly evolved organisational and analytical skills.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of the global research landscape and current trends in management systems.
  • Knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure generally used to support research and development (R&D) and quality, as well as infrastructure.
