Organizational Setting |
The Department of Management (MT) provides a 'platform of services' that serves as a foundation for the successful delivery of the IAEA's scientific and technical programmes. Its mission statement is as follows: "MT is a partner and a business enabler that champions change and efficiency, leveraging a common purpose". Thus, among other support activities, it assists a scientific manager in recruiting the right expert, helps a technical officer coordinate the purchase of radiation equipment, works with the press to help clarify the technically complex work of the IAEA, and ensures that all Board documents are translated and distributed on a timely basis to Member States. The Division of Human Resources (MTHR) plans, acquires and manages human resources to help implement IAEA programmes. The Division delivers the full spectrum of HR services, including organizational development and planning, talent acquisition and development, performance management, and administration of compensation and benefits. The Division serves a multicultural workforce of approximately 2300 people from diverse scientific, technical, managerial and professional disciplines. |
Main purpose |
Reporting to the Deputy Director General for Management, the Director provides leadership and professional direction to the staff of MTHR, and drives the planning and implementation of the IAEA's HR strategies. The Director oversees a comprehensive and integrated HR service that ensures that the IAEA's HR capacity is matched with its mission and goals, in the interest of the quality and efficiency of delivery of its programmes. |
Role |
The Director is: (1) a leader, providing strategic direction, while inspiring the implementation of innovative solutions and best practices that address the IAEA's priorities, in accordance with the IAEA's core ethical standards; (2) a manager, of the human and financial resources of the Division; and, (3) anadvisor, to the Deputy Director General for Management and the Director General on matters relating to HR management, and the provision of medical services. |
Partnerships |
The Director develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders, including: the senior management of the IAEA; Member State representatives; representatives of the Staff Council and the Staff Association; and representatives of other UN and international organizations. The Director is a member of the UN's CEB HR Network, a member on the Board of UN Joint Staff Pension Fund (in most years), and is a representative of the IAEA on (or to) various other UN bodies, including those established by the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC). |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $95 394 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $58 953*, dependency benefits, diplomatic status, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation,home leave, pension plan and health insurance.
