Position Summary
The job holder will be the electrical, control & instrumentation technical expert (Technical Authority) who sets and defines the standards, guidelines and procedures that are used to manage the electrical aspects related to GS's various activities.

The job holder will also ensure all marine related projects follow the relevant standards and guidelines set by the Maritime Function.

The job holder will also lead the electrical, control and instrumentation aspects of all GS related projects, as part of a larger multi-discipline project team.

The job holder will also be expected take part, and in some cases lead, other Marine Function and SDC&T activities such as ad-hoc projects, procedure reviews and technology development, not just confined to area of expertise. 
Key Accountabilities
A) The position is accountable to set and maintain the electrical control & instrumentation standards, guidelines, procedures and best practices, that will form part of the Maritime Functions key activities. In doing this the job holder will act as the Marine Function Technical Authority for Electrical, Control & Instrumentation disciplines.

B) To provide technical advise and support to BG marine projects world wide and to ensure they are following the applicable standards and procedures.

C) To provide Technical assurance to the Marine Function, as it assures assets and marine projects world wide.

D) To lead the electrical and control aspects on any Global Shipping lead project.

E) To maintain industry contacts, to keep abreast of rule and regulatory requirements, as well as the latest development within the electrical and control marine industry.

F) To manage other SDC&T or Maritime projects as required and directed.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Experience Needed: 
Preferably holds a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. To be able to demonstrate experience with skillful application in; development of specifications, selecting, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical equipment, and other computerized systems commonly used on Diesel Electric vessels and other vessels.
Experience in electric propulsion projects is essential and in particular in the recent technology.
Experience as a Marine Electrical Engineer or equivalent sailing on electric propulsion vessels is desired, as well as a good understand of DP control systems.

Specialist Knowledge/Languages:
 
The job holder must be articulate and a good communicator, be able to compile professional, persuasive documents and reports as well as write relevant standards and guidelines.

The job holder should demonstrate an ability to independently manage problems and tasks. Decisions will be made within generally broad parameters and a high level of initiative is required, taking into account all factors and not just the technical ones.

The job holder requires a good knowledge of classification society (ABS, DNV, etc.), statutory, and industry standard compliance. Strong technical engineering evaluation skills and the ability to manage and evaluate engineering designs.

The job holder shall be self motivated and require little direction.

Strong integrity and values are essential.

Must possess financial and administrative qualities as well as strong computer skills.
