Senior Manager, The Netherlands Office

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is driven by the vision of a world without malnutrition. GAIN is a Swiss based international organization that mobilizes public-private partnerships and provides financial and technical support to deliver nutritious foods to those people most at risk of malnutrition.  The organization is delivering improved nutrition to an estimated 700 million people in more than 30 countries, half of whom are women and children.

Netherlands is a major partner of GAIN in the area of food security and nutrition though two major programs. First, a directly funded 4-year grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs centered on four countries. Second, the Amsterdam Initiative against Malnutrition (AIM) is a Dutch partnership model that brings different stakeholders together to improve food and nutrition security. The partners in the initiative develop innovative market based solutions to malnutrition in Africa and Asia. The partners in AIM all bring in their own expertise. The participating companies, Unilever, DSM, AkzoNobel, SPAR and Rijk Zwaan are all experts in developing, marketing and selling safe and high quality products, ranging from seeds to food supplements. Hivos, ICCO, BoPInc and GAIN have deeply rooted networks in and knowledge of the project countries. Wageningen UR helps to monitor and evaluate the impact of the interventions. Rabobank Foundation helps improve access to finance in the target countries. The Dutch ministry of Foreign Affairs is an important partner and co-financer. However, most important are the local partners. Each project has at least one or two leading local partners.
