The Organisation

Global Energy Marketing and Shipping (GEMS) develops and implements BG Group’s strategy for the marketing and optimisation of all commodity streams, connecting competitively priced resources to high-value markets.

Position Summary

Responsible for ensuring the day-to-day delivery of expected value from one or more of BG’s long-term, mid-term and spot LNG sale and purchase agreements in the Europe, Africa and Middle East (EAME) area through management of contractual obligations, development of appropriate management systems and processes, and assessment of commercial / contractual risks and opportunities.
Responsible for maintaining effective relationships with specific counterparties, proposing and progressing improvement initiatives.
Works closely with other Contract Managers in EAME, Asia and Americas, as well as with Trading and Optimisation Teams and Vessel Co-ordinators. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage day-to-day commercial operations for one or more long-term, mid-term and spot LNG SPAs and ensure all commercial / contractual risks and opportunities are identified and contract obligations are met including:
    • Issuing notices and correspondence to contractual counter parties; 
    • Negotiating and managing ADP and NDS processes, managing changes to delivery dates, vessels, destinations and pricing;
    • Tracking actual load dates, quantities and quality against contract;
    • Managing shortfall, late delivery and demurrage exposure;
    • Calculating purchase prices, sales prices and diversion payments; validating invoice payments and due dates;
    • Managing contractual issues and disputes through amiable discussion with counter parties and/or raising the issue with management / legal; 
    • Identifying contractual opportunities and making recommendations to capitalize on those opportunities; and
    • Identifying contractual risks and making recommendations to mitigate.
  • Maintain and propose improvements to the Contract Management System, Lessons Learned Register, Value Log and Bi-Weekly report.
  • Assist in preparing and verifying the Cargo Schedule, Available For Sale report and Cargo Balance / Supply-Demand report.
  • Maintain data on cargo scheduling, volumes and pricing in Endur. 
  • Provide volume and contract price guidance to budget and forecasting processes. Perform stress testing to assess volume risk. 
  • Provide contractual interpretation advice and summaries to facilitate other Commercial Operations activities such as pricing provisions, diversions margin sharing mechanisms, etc.
  • Identify opportunities for improving contracting global best practices through issues arising from existing contracts or otherwise, and identify requirements to update contracts to comply with current BG standards.
  • Lead negotiation of operational contract amendments and participate actively in more major contract renegotiations.
  • Contribute to management and functional reviews.
  • Provide back-up support and leave cover for other Contract Managers.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute

Experience & Qualifications needed
  • Experience in LNG or gas industry in a contractual negotiation, contractual management or commercial role, plus experience of managing / operating LNG or gas supply contracts
  • Bachelors Degree (or international equivalent) in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Technical, Commercial or related field required
Specialist Knowledge needed:
  • Sound knowledge of LNG or gas industry commercial concepts / principles and terminology
  • Working level knowledge of LNG trading and SPA contracts, credit policy, logistics and planning, risk mitigation, transportation economics and financial optimization tools (hedging)

Special Features
  • May be required to travel overseas to other GEMS offices or to meet BG’s counter parties
  • Will work on a trade floor environment, fast paced, dynamic and often noisy
  • Role is in an operational department and will often require working during evenings, weekends & holidays; laptop and Blackberry will be provided
