Communications Specialist I, Atlanta, US

FHI 360's Social Marketing and Communication (SMC) practice has distinctive competence in a science-based approach to social marketing and communication to advance public health in the U.S. SMC currently implements a diverse portfolio of social marketing, public relations, and communication projects in the U.S., which are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), other government agencies, private associations, and foundations on health issues such as obesity prevention, immunization, tobacco control, and injury prevention.
Additional Responsibilities: The Communication Specialist will support projects with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), including providing communication support to CDC's Office of the Associate Director for Policy (OADP)—the nexus for the nation's leading public health agency's policy activities. FHI 360 offers communication and operational support to OADP, its Office of the Director (OD), and its three offices – Office of the National Prevention Strategy (ONPS), Office of Health System Collaboration (OHSC), and the Policy Research, Analysis, and Development Office (PRADO).
The Communication Specialist will work with FHI 360's Project Managers to develop, organize, and execute a variety of communication and operational deliverables for OADP, including materials development (e.g., reports, white papers, and fact sheets); social media messages and infographics; trainings (SharePoint and presentation skills/media); webinars; in-person and phone-based meetings; and web development (Internet, intranet, and 508 compliance).
In addition, the Communications Specialist will work with the project team to facilitate and finalize projects with CDC's social media and web teams and via FHI 360's in-house design, copyediting, and technology experts (DesignLab, CopyLab, and TechLab, respectively). The employee will move projects forward, ensure the quality control of these projects, and, as needed and appropriate, contribute to new business development efforts while also giving day to day operational support to FHI 360's Atlanta office.
  • Supports overall day to day activities of FHI 360's Atlanta office
  • Supports client team and supervisor in various projects and tasks
  • Reviews, proofs, and edits documents and presentations for quality control
  • Creates and assists in creating high-quality presentations, reports, spreadsheets, and other documents
  • Schedules and organizes client activities such as meetings, travel, conferences, and department activities for members of the department
  • Provides meeting logistics support, as needed (e.g., scheduling conference rooms, scheduling conference calls, scheduling client meetings, coordinating food, and logistics)
  • Take meeting notes and develop meeting summaries, as needed
  • May serve as a resource to Atlanta staff on a variety of subjects including FHI 360 office operation and information on processing procedures
  • Compiles data and prepares reports
  • Responds to regularly occurring requests for information
  • Works independently or effectively as a member of a team on special and ongoing projects
  • Works on special projects and/or other duties as assigned
  • Provides high quality customer service, both internally and externally
  • Completes work in a timely and efficient manner and ensures work is accurate.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a communication field or English is required. Two or more years of professional work experience in public relations, marketing, advertising, or another communication fields is required. Demonstrated experience with meeting or event coordination or project management. Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications and web-based platforms (e.g., SharePoint, EventBrite, Live Meeting, Blackboard Collaborate, etc.). Typically requires 2-5 years of experience.
Superior organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to communicate written and orally in a succinct, clear, and persuasive manner. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member, prioritize, and competently manage a variety of activities with multiple deadlines. Motivation and willingness to take initiative and full responsibility for selective activities.
