This provides the support for the Syrian refugee crisis being responded to across the region.
ACTED Jordan has expanded recently to support the Syrian refugees being hosted both in the communities and four refugee camps. In Za’atari camp where there are approximately 120,000 refugees, ACTED is providing water supply, solid waste management and hygiene promotion; in Azraq with a potential for 130,000 refugees, ACTED is providing water supply, solid and water waste management, hygiene promotion, and food distributions. Moreover, in the host communities ACTED is supporting individual vulnerable households as well as whole communities through WASH, Shelter, cash, NFI, and other interventions. ACTED is also a partner of REACH, that provides information management support to working groups and sectors nationally.
REACH was born in 2010 as a joint initiative of two INGOs (IMPACT Initiatives and ACTED) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Operational Satellite Applications Programme (UNOSAT). REACH’s purpose is to promote and facilitate the development of information products that enhance the humanitarian community’s decision making and planning capacity for emergency, reconstruction and development contexts, supporting and working within the framework of the humanitarian reform process. REACH facilitates information management for aid actors through three complementary services: (a) need and situation assessments facilitated by REACH teams; (b) situation analysis using satellite imagery; (c) provision of related database and (web)-mapping facilities and expertise.
REACH in Iraq is implementing information management programs across the host communities, as well as refugee camps in response to the needs as a result of the Syrian refugee crisis. The REACH programs in refugee camps include Domiz camp (60,000 people), and with the potential for expansion to other camps. The camp based programs target information management support for camp coordination, infrastructure, shelter, WASH, education, health, protection and other sectors. The activities include infrastructure mapping, thematic analysis, and sweeps of the entire camp.
