Senior Education Advisor

Starting end of September 2014, 40 hours p/week based in Amsterdam.
You
You are an expert in education. You will contribute to improving the quality of War Child Holland's education programming and thus to the strategic outcome that children in conflict access high quality, safe and inclusive educational opportunities that enable them to develop to their fullest potential. You will also contribute to ensuring that War Child's programming is integrated, addressing children's educational, psychosocial and protection needs.
You will be part of the Quality Accountability and Learning (QAL) department and report to the Head of QAL. You will manage interns, volunteers and consultants if and when necessary and work in close collaboration with colleagues and management in both Head Office (HO) and War Child Country Offices.
Your challenge
You will be responsible for providing guidance and support to the rest of the organisation to ensure adherence to and integration of internal and international quality standards. You will collect information and evidence to strengthen the quality of programming in your area of expertise which includes organisation wide learning, monitoring and evaluation, and development of core interventions and approaches to improve the results of War Child projects and programmes. You will lead, coordinate and facilitate developments in your expertise area, including support for capacity development of staff in War Child country offices. You will also contribute to advances in the sector through networking and collaboration with other international organisations.
Your profile
You have a master's degree in education or a closely related academic background. You have at least five years' working experience in education in conflict affected and/or fragile states, preferably in emergency education projects. You have experience in project management as well as monitoring and evaluation. You have up to date knowledge of best practices in education support in war affected areas and a good understanding of the INEE minimum standards. You have a broad (inter) national network in this field. You have experience in developing methods, tools, programmes/interventions and delivering training. Good facilitation skills and intercultural sensitivity are a must for this position. You have good knowledge and understanding of children's rights. You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Fluency in French, Arabic and/or Spanish is an added value. You are flexible and prepared to travel regularly to the War Child programme countries.
You are committed to investing at least two years in further developing this position. War Child offers a contract for one year with the intention to extend for a further year.
