triple j is looking for an Australian music fanatic to join our music programming team. If you live and breathe Australian music, if you're constantly scouring the web for the best new sounds, and if you have some experience in programming music for radio or TV, then this job could be for you. You will be finding new Australian music from a wide variety of genres, working closely with the triple j Music Director and the triple j Unearthed team to pick the best sounds to be featured on the radio and online.
Objective - to assist triple j Music Director in the music programming of the station, contributing to the overall sound and output of the network, with a particular focus on Australian Music.
Key Accountabilities:
- Assist in the programming of music on triple j under the direction of Music Director including sourcing new music, listening to and appraising incoming material for airplay on triple j.
- Act as music programmer when required using Selector, G Selector and other music scheduling programs.
- Responsible for the administrative functions and workflow of the triple j music database including liaison with external stakeholders and APRA reporting.
- Oversee the maintenance of the triple j music database in Ultimo and triple j interstate music collections as required.
- Contribute to triple j Australian music related programs and online content as directed, and maintain associated websites and user generated content.
- Initiate and distribute information relating to triple j Unearthed feature artists and music added to triple j playlists to program makers and external stakeholders.
- Act as point of contact for listener enquiries relating to Australian music played on triple j and triple j Unearthed.
- Contribute to the broader triple j music team, including content and campaigns for triple j Unearthed.
- Actively promote the ABC values and apply all relevant policies and guidelines including Editorial Policies, Equity & Diversity and OH&S.
Selection Criteria:
- A demonstrated passion for new Australian music and an excellent ability to identify strong content from a wide variety of genres.
- Proven experience in a music programming role in radio with sound editorial skills and judgement.
- Demonstrated high level understanding of and commitment to the role triple j plays in the Australian music and media landscape.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in operating and using digital broadcast systems, production programs and equipment such as Netia, Pro Tools, GSelector, Selector and other music scheduling programs.
- Demonstrated administrative and organisational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a small team environment including supervising other staff as required. Proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Knowledge and ability to apply ABC Editorial and Corporate Policies including Equity & Diversity and OH&S policies and practices.
