Base Manager - Angola (Fixed term, 4 to 6 months)

MAG is a humanitarian organisation clearing the remnants of conflict for the benefit of communities worldwide. MAG is co-laureate of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize. We deliver practical, positive solutions that assist the process of peace and stability in conflict and former conflict countries. During the past 20 years we have safely found, removed and destroyed millions of landmines, bombs and missiles.
This is an excellent opportunity to work in an established programme which now has circa 200 national and 7 international staff. The MAG Angola programme is looking to consolidate its position in Angola and to strengthen and develop its national capacity. Mine action in Angola is critical to the ongoing efforts to reconstruct and rehabilitate a country devastated by years of conflict.
Reporting to the Country Director, you will be responsible for the management of MAG’s base in Luena, including responsibility for logistics, procurement and administration. In addition, you will also provide some support to overseeing logistic requirements in Luanda. Specific responsibilities include fleet management, managing fuel supplies, store management and procurement. Further responsibilities include implementing appropriate logistical, administrative and management support systems and procedures, in coordination with the Country Director. In addition you will be responsible for overseeing and supervising all base support staff including responsibility for their recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation.
In this role there will be a strong emphasis on capacity building our national staff in Angola, in particular the national Base Manager, in order to ensure that following the completion of this fixed term contract, the systems and skills are in place to enable MAG to enjoy continued support and success in these areas of the programme.
You will need experience of working overseas in international aid or development including expertise in logistics, administration, capacity building and management of national. You should have the ability to work within complicated national and international political frameworks, have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to demonstrate diplomacy. The successful candidate will have experience of implementing and administering management systems which have improved project effectiveness and efficiency.
Portuguese language skills would be a strong advantage, but are not essential for this role.
The salary band for this role is £24,475 - £27,547pa plus per diem of circa US $12,600 pa. These will be pro-rata for the duration of the contract. MAG will also provide accommodation, international leave flight(s) commensurate with the contract length, and insurance, amongst other benefits.
