Chief of Party, Judicial Training, Sri Lanka
Project/Proposal Summary:
MSI is currently seeking a Chief of Part (COP) as part of a three year USAID funded Sri Lankan Judicial Training project. The project is aimed at supporting the training work of the Judicial Training Institute (JTI) in Sri Lanka and is based in Colombo. The JTI does pre service and in service training for judges and with the end of the war many new judges have been hired for posts in areas that were previously controlled by the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam). Many of these newly hired judges could benefit greatly from this training.
Position Summary: The COP is the project leader, ensuring that the project supports the training work done at the JTI. The COP is also responsible for overseeing all project activities and ensuring good communications and direction to local NGO partners. The COP is also the primary point of contact between the project and USAID and is responsible for ensuring the creation and timely submission of annual work plans, annual reports and quarterly progress reports. The COP is also ultimately responsible for ensuring the timely and effective management of all project activities and staff.
Responsibilities: • Direct all project activities and staff; • The training of individuals who would become trainers; • Improving course curriculum; • Providing bench book materials to judges being trained; • Writing donor reports or proposals; • Supervision of staff or consultants;
Qualifications: • Law degree required • Experience with judicial training and curriculum development for judges in developing countries; o Especially in South or SE Asia; • Experience with mixed legal systems (common/civil law); • Good management skills • Experience with USAID
